What is Breast Reduction?
Reduction mammoplasty or breast reduction surgery is a procedure used to remove tissue, excess fat, and skin from the breasts. Breast reduction surgeries are typically done to ease discomfort or to achieve decrease the breast size proportionate to the rest of the body.
Breast reduction surgery is usually performed through incisions on your breasts with surgical removal of the excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin. The operation steps are anesthesia, the incisions, removing tissue, and repositioning and closing incisions.
When to consider Breast reduction
Women who have large breasts and want to resolve issues such as chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain that require pain medications, chronic rash or skin irritation under the breasts, nerve pain, restricted activity, poor self-image related to large breasts, difficulty fitting into bras and clothing.
Who is an appropriate candidate?
You can have breast reduction surgery at any age, sometimes even as a teenager. But if your breasts aren’t yet fully developed, you might need a second surgery later in life. Breast reduction surgery generally isn’t recommended if you smoke, have certain conditions such as diabetes or heart problems ,or are very obese.
